Agnikarma is a pain management procedure described in the Indian system of medicine, i.e. ayuveda by Sushrutha who is the father of ancient Indian surgery. It is a procedure for any kind of pain and it is a drugless procedure. The beauty is once the pain, acute or chronic treated with agnikarma the recurrence rate is almost nil or less. It is a very effective drugless therapy for any kind of pain. It may be of muscle, tendon, ligament or joint or bones. For e.g. osteoarthritis or the degenerative joint disorder, neck pain, spondylitis, spondylolisthesis, psiatica, frozen shoulder, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow or any such kind of painful conditions can be effectively managed by this drugless therapy. It is performed by a special instrument called agnikarma shalaka. Agnikarma shalaka is a specialised pointed metallic instrument. The procedure is very simple where the shalaka is heated and with pre-reparation controlled therapeutic pointed burns are created in a form of small points. So this will be done on the most tender points. The most tender points are marked on the affected area and the red hot agnikarma shalaka is applied on that area. After this procedure a herbal ghee is applied to cool down the area and to heal the wounds faster. On an average 3 to 5 sittings of agnikarma will heal the painful consitions.
